The Koagannu 360° virtual tour is now live, letting anyone walk through the Maldives’ oldest and largest coral-stone cemetery: roughly 900 years old, with some 1,500 tombstones, the country’s largest tombstone and the historic Fandiyaaru Miskiy.
Tap-to-read story hotspots and audio narration guide visitors through the site, while the same 3D capture doubles as digital preservation of an endangered monument listed on the 2022 World Monuments Watch and the UNESCO Tentative List for the Maldives’ coral-stone mosques.
The council is presenting Koagannu respectfully as a living heritage and burial site, with visit-responsibly guidance built into the experience.
“A virtual walk that is also an act of preservation: the tombs are captured even as they weather.”
